Rebacked in a blue cloth binding over pictorial hard boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards. The paper on the front board is just beginning to lift to the fore edge. A beautifully illustrated copy of 'L'oie du Capitole', a French children's book about the mythological capitol geese, with hand-coloured illustrations. 'Edition du Figaro', scarce. Illustrations include numerous hand-painted in-text illustrations throughout work. 'L'oie du Capitole' is an amusing children's book, written in French and based upon the mythological 'Oies du Capitole&apos. The Capitol Geese refers to an event from the sixth century, in which geese raised the alarm to the Roman people when the Gauls tried to take them by surprise at night.  Other interesting animals are introduced, such as elephants, camels, and lions. Written by Leo Claretie (1862-1924), a french journalist. Claretie tragically died when he was hit by a train in the 1920s. With drawings by Auguste Vimar (1851-1916), a visual artist who contributed to a range of children's books. Ink inscription to front pastedown from prior owner, stating 'Jacques Chaigne, a son grand ami, Jean.' Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart, with gilt illustration still bright on front boards. Light fading to the margins of boards with a few marks. Light wear to the head and tail of spine. Prior owner's ink inscription to front pastedown and endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. London , Hodder and Stoughton, [1916]. Cloth. A collection of songs and stories from popular culture, illustrated by Edmund Dulac. During World War I, Dulac produced relief books and when after the war the deluxe children's book market shrank he turned to magazine illustrations among other ventures. He designed banknotes during World War II and postage stamps, most notably those that heralded the beginning of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. With nineteen tipped-in coloured plates, and a portrait of Dulac. Including Cinderella, Sinbad the Sailor, Blue Beard and many others. In a yellow cloth binding. Externally, sound, though with some tidemarks and bumping. Internally, firmly bound, although front blank has been removed. A collection of humorous amphomorphic animal colour illustrations. With fifty color plates. Illustrated by Benjamin Rabier, a French illustrator, and comic book artist. He started working as an illustrator for various newspapers, and his works normally had animals as main characters. He created the famous character of Gideon the duck. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Some loss of paper to the boards, heavier to the front board. Marks and some discolouration to the boards. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and generally clean with the odd spot.
